About this tour
Grüß Gott! I’m Andrea Helena, an official Munich tourist guide and a Munich native born and bred, which around here is something of a rarity. Join me on a walk through the Old Town in ten stops, from Marienplatz to Stachus, as I tell you the stories behind each square. Why the Virgin Mary’s column marks the exact centre of the city. How a monkey carried the future emperor to the top of a tower. Where the devil’s footprint you’ll see on the cathedral floor came from. And why the people of Munich breathed a sigh of relief the day the Maiden’s Tower came down. Along the way: the New Town Hall and its Glockenspiel, the Alter Hof where it all began, the Hofbräuhaus, the opera house, the Residenz, the Feldherrnhalle, the Theatinerkirche, the Bayerischer Hof and the Michaelskirche, where our King Ludwig II rests. A little over two kilometres on foot, at your own pace, with my voice in your ear. And if you’d like to dig deeper afterwards, all this and much more is in my book “Munich’s History and Stories”.
