Opening hours: summer and winter
Hours change quite a bit depending on the season. In the summer season (1 April to 26 October) it's open Tuesday to Saturday from 9am to 8:45pm, and Sundays and public holidays from 9am to 2:30pm. In the winter season (27 October to 31 March) the hours shorten: Tuesday to Friday 9am-6:30pm, Saturday 9:30am-6:30pm, and Sundays and public holidays 9:30am-2:30pm.
It's closed on Mondays all year round, no exceptions. Keep in mind the last entry is half an hour before closing, so if you're going late in the day, don't leave it to the last minute.

Single or combined ticket: what's worth it
A single ticket to the amphitheatre costs €5. If you're also planning to see the Roman circus and the Torre del Pretori, the walls and the Passeig Arqueològic, or the Fòrum de la Colònia, there's a combined ticket for €15 that covers five heritage sites in the city (amphitheatre, circus-Pretori, walls, forum and Casa Canals).
Do the quick maths: if you're visiting three or more of those sites, the combined ticket already works out cheaper than paying for each one separately. If the amphitheatre is all you're after, the single ticket is the simpler option.
There are also 50% discounts for students, seniors, ages 12 to 17 and groups of more than 20, plus free entry for under-12s (there are more discount and free-entry categories on the official site, such as unemployed people or teachers).

The amphitheatre is a very open stone space, with the tiers facing the sea and little shade, so the midday summer sun can be quite strong. As with most open-air monuments, going early or later in the afternoon (summer hours let you in until 8:45pm) tends to be more pleasant than the middle of the day.
